“Proish Noob” and “Noobish pro” are two sayings that I made up, but are interesting to think about in all trading card games. They are methods of categorizing players based on skill.
What makes a card player a “Proish Noob” and a “Noobish Pro” to you? To me, a proish noob is someone who has good cards, but doesn’t know how to assemble them into a good deck. An example of a noobish pro is someone who doesn’t have the good cards, but knows how to play the bad/ok cards well enough to compete with the good cards.
All popular TCG’s have these categories of players. An example of a proish noob in Yugioh would be someone who has a bunch of rare Mermail cards, but not enough to make a complete competitive Mermail deck, and as a result, they make a random weird Mermail deck with some good Mermail cards. An example of a noobish pro would be someone who doesn’t know that a theme deck is better than a “main deck”, and plays a main deck as a result with their favorite cards, but they assemble it well to counter the meta (EX: maining 2 – 3 Caius’s to banish Mecha Phantom Beast Draccossack).
What do you consider to be a proish noob and a noobish pro in whatever trading card game you play? Also, do you have different definitions for these phrases? Feel free to leave a comment!
